Location: Santa Barbara, Calif.
The Skinny: A Curbed National tipster sent in this peeping-tom paradise on 3.5 acres in the hills of Santa Barbara. At this price point, expectations were high for some impressive water views, but apparently the only views are from the outside, into this Barcelona Pavilion-style modern mansion. Most notably exhibitionist are the master bathroom bathtub and shower, which share an exterior glass wall and face the driveway. There's no evidence of shades or blinds, and for a home at this price point, that rules out a good percentage of the paparazzi-averse buyer pool, but hey, there must be at least one insanely rich nudist out there, right?
Aside from the dubious decision to omit window coverings, this is one impressive modern design. Completed this year, the low-slung palace features five bedrooms, 5.5 baths, a multi-thousand bottle wine cave, glass galore, and a private gallery currently showcasing the seller's auto collection (with space for 32 cars). The real question is if the house can justify the 1000 percent premium over the cost of the land. In 2005, the lot was purchased for $3M. Post-construction asking price? $35M.
