The Contemporist has just set its sights on Hover House 3, the last structure in a trio designed by modernist firm Glen Irani Architects. Set a cramped lot adjacent to a canal in Venice, Calif., the house is sort of inside-out kind of dwelling, one designed with minimal interior space to reduce fossil fuel consumption and needed building materials. Which means, of course, that the place embraces the great outdoors; case in point is the fully equipped outdoor kitchen tucked under the house. Points all around for long summer eves spent dining al fresco; demerits for not going all out and splurging on a really sweet roof deck.
