Gilded Age Lives On in Spectacular Seaside Tudor

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Newport, R.I.
Price: $18,000,000
The Skinny: This Newport mansion, known as Fairholme, might have a slightly less glamorous-sounding location on Ruggles Avenue than its Belleview brethren, but unlike most of those classic mansions, this one's still in private hands. Set on 4.33 acres of coveted waterfront property, Fairholme was designed by acclaimed Philadelphia architect Frank Furness and more closely resembles an English country manor than the neighboring Beaux Arts mansion The Breakers, but this is no shabby beach cottage. Eleven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms are spread over the 20,000-square-foot main house, and the swimming pool is protected from sea breezes by a vine-covered brick wall. Luxe doesn't get much more old school than this.
