Midwest Wonder Modeled After Newport Manses a Really Sweet Deal

The Atkinson House sings a rather familiar tune: bid on a home surrendered by the bankrupt, score an otherworldly deal. Set on Lake St. Louis, in Missouri, this 40,000-square-foot European-inspired estate cost fraudulent US Fidelis co-founder Darain Atkinson $26.7M to build, a sum that included obscene payments to an architectural blacksmith, a landscaping company, a home theater company, and lighting and millwork companies. Now, an anonymous buyer will be able to enjoy the fruit's of Atkinson's overspending for the bargain-bin sale price of $4.75M, despite the property's original ask of $14.9M. Those fruits include but aren't limited to: an indoor bowling alley, a safe room, an art studio, a music room, and a turret room. You know, just the bare-bones creature comforts.
