Joan Rivers Adjusts to Life at Melissa's Like a Fish Out of Water

New, 12 comments

Last night, Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? premiered on WE and we watched as Rivers the Elder leaves her formal, antiques-filled Manhattan apartment and coiffed Connecticut country house for daughter Melissa's house in Malibu, Calif. She brought along piece after piece of luggage; a nervous peeing dog named Lola; the ashes of her dead husband, uncle and, just maybe, Vincent Price; as well as every piece of jewelry she ever designed for QVC.
Joan arrives in California to a cast that includes a delightful surfer grandson as well as Mel's secret live-in boyfriend, gay live-in friend, best live-in friend, live-in assistant and hot live-in Swedish nanny. There's absurdity for sure—particularly during the scene where Joan puts suntan lotion on the nanny's topless back—but even more phenomenal, for our purposes, was watching Joan acclimate to her daughter's relaxed Malibu digs, with its small guest room and an even smaller bathroom where she can't use the toilet and close the door at the same time. At some glorious point this season, Joan will sell all of Mel's furniture without her permission. Consider the video clip below a teaser.
