Tennessee-based artist Jessica Wohl has installed layers of thick synthetic hair in the stairway of the old, abandoned Mountainaire Hotel in Hot Springs, Ark.—thus "transform[ing] this rotting architectural space into something sweet, as Flavorwire puts it. So, um, why? There's no specific project statement listed on her website, but her bio offers clues as to what's going on here: "I make the invisible visible," Wohl writes. "[...] Simultaneously safe and disturbing, pairing the familiar with the unfamiliar imbues my work with tension and mystery. I find a love for the uncanny." The title of this piece is, very appropriately, "Hairy Stairs."
