Solar Space Cities

In 1975, NASA’s Ames Research Center was designing solar powered space stations for construction by the year 2000. Sadly, we haven't managed to build "a giant toroidal structure spanning a mile wide and hovering 250,000 miles above the earth," and what with the whole shuttle program cancellation thing, it'll be a while before we're growing string beans in space.
