Top-Dollar Wine Country Villa Without the Requisite Vineyard

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: St. Helena, Calif.
Price: $29,500,000
The Skinny: This 47-acre estate might sit in the very heart of California wine country, Napa Valley, but has yet to develop its own vineyard. Perhaps the terroir wasn't to a vinter's liking, or, more likely, the owner can afford to buy such a quantity of top-shelf vino for himself that producing more for profit just doesn't seem necessary. After all, this 12,000-square-foot Tuscan-style villa is asking an astonishing $30M for the privilege of buying-in all the wine. At least the place does a good job of replicating an extravagant Tuscan villa, especially given that recent builds like this rarely come off convincingly. The landscaping, particularly the mature cypress trees, help to make up for any nouveau detailing.
