Society Doyenne Brooke Astor's Country Estate Finally Sells

A little more than a month after her Park Avenue apartment sold for $21M, the late philanthropist Brooke Astor's beloved country estate in Westchester County, N.Y. has sold. Like the massive Manhattan apartment, which sold for less than half its original $46M ask, Holly Hill took a major price chop before finding a buyer. It was first listed in 2008 for $12.9M, but ended up selling to a discrete local family for something less than $7.5M. Perhaps the fire sale is due to the ongoing legal battle over the Astor estate, which has been contested since her 87-year-old son was convicted of stealing from her in her later years. While that case suffers a string of endless appeals, the new owners will be touching up the 27-room mansion, which, according to the New York Daily News, is "in need of a face lift."
