The Skinny: Featured in the July/August issue of House Beautiful, this one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment belongs to public-relations honcho Guillermo Zalamea and was worked over by Richard Bories and James Shearron of Manhattan-based architecture and design firm Bories and Shearron. Gone are the trim, moldings, and kitchen cabinets present when Zalamea bought the place in 2007; in are the high-gloss yellow front door, the soft, gray walls (kept simple in order to accommodate Zalamea's extensive and ever-shifting art collection), the bedroom ceiling lacquered midnight blue, the wall-to-wall sisal flooring ("a lot easier than trying to find a gigantic rug," he told House Beautiful), and the open kitchen shelving that not only serves to display colorful collectibles but also keeps the view unobstructed. That's precisely what Zalamea, who's selling the place because he now runs the Los Angeles office of HL Group, talks up; positioned on the southern edge of Lincoln Park near the Chicago History Museum, the apartment affords sunrise/set views. Not too shabby for $289K—wonder if those zigzag chairs can be negotiated in.
