Photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank, whose work frequently appears on the pages of Vogue, was disappointed when she first set foot in her then-boyfriend's apartment. Undeterred by the lackluster interiors, she and James Frank were engaged ten months later. Then the couple moved in together and Claiborne had her way, commencing a serious renovation. Lending a hand was her design-savvy mother-in-law, Elle Decor contributing editor at large Cynthia Frank. The results are stunning and certainly not bad for what amounts to a very grand "starter apartment" for the couple, who lived "through a cold New York winter in just one bedroom" while the renovations were ongoing.
