It's pure coincidence, but just in time for Renters Week Fast Company runs an interview with Joe Gebbia, co-founder of the vacation-rental site Airbnb. Back in 2007—long before the site's public shaming and ensuing $50,000 insurance policy—Gebbia and then-roommate Brian Chesky rented out the extra space in their apartment to folks coming to San Francisco for a design conference. "We inflated an airbed in the living room and imagined cooking breakfast for a lucky guest," Gebbia says. "By the end of the night, we came up with the name Airbed & Breakfast." Read his email to Chesky, now the company's CEO, above.
