Landlord Thinks Her "White Only" Pool Sign Should Stay Put

New, 4 comments

This is nothing short of nuts: in late September, Cincinnati landlord Jamie Hein was found guilty of violating the Ohio Civil Rights Act. Why, you ask? Because she posted a sign emblazoned with the words "Public Swimming Pool, White Only" next to the pool at a duplex she owns in order to prevent a black teenage girl from swimming in it. The complainants? The girl's parents, who have since moved in order to "avoid subjecting their family to further humiliating treatment." Now, Hein has submitted a request for reconsideration, holding fast to the belief that she's not in fact being racist but that the teen's hair products would damage the water by making it "cloudy." Furthermore, she states: "I don't have any problem with race at all. It's a historical sign." OK, lady, whatever you say.
