On the Books

Alana Semuels at the Los Angeles Times files a rave for Unreal Estate, the new tell-all tome by real estate author and journo Michael Gross. "It can sometimes read like real estate porn, with paragraphs of jaw-dropping details about a type of extravagance that might have been scorned even by the very wealthy on the Titanic," writes Semuels, adding that the book, focused on grand, storied Los Angeles mansions and the people who've inhabited them, "might be best described as what would happen if Us Weekly and Architectural Digest had a love child that was much smarter than either." So that HBO series should be pretty good then, eh? [Los Angeles Times; previously]
