It all started with the Herzog & de Meuron-designed parking structure, a building so spectacular that the developer built a personal penthouse on top and lavish wedding receptions have been held in its spotless spaces. Now, there's a new starchitect looking to break into the burgeoning market for high-dollar parking garages in Miami, Fla. Zaha Hadid has just released renderings of a swoopy, five-story parking garage. Of course, this new stack will have competition from Enrique Norten's recently completed garage, but the whole thing has Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower pleased. She recently declared that some of the city's garages "have become destinations within themselves and have attained individual iconic status."
