A June 1935 article in Popular Mechanics, which was just dug up by Modern Mechanix, touts an amazing innovation that sounds like the precursor to modern modular (or prefab) housing—"delivered delivered to owners in a giant truck, unwrapped from their Cellophane covers," and all. "Prices range from $3,800 for a five-room bungalow to $9,900 for a two-story house, with 15 models available. Extra rooms can be added as needed, a feature that adapts the "motorized" home to the average American family." [Modern Mechanix via Boing Boing]
