Hearst Set to Buy Lagardère

Hearst kicked off 2011 by announcing its plans to buy the American titles published by France-based Lagardère; now, reports the New York Post, the deal is set to go through as early as today. Hearst will soon become the shelter magazine titan, publishing House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Veranda, and Country Living, not to mention Town & Country and Good Housekeeping. The conquest for world domination comes with a price, of course: in this case it's the termination of 30 percent of its workforce to make room for incoming employees. [previously; NYP]
