90210'ers Destroy Prince's Dreams of an 85,000-Sq-Ft Compound

New, 1 comment

Prince Abdulaziz ibn Abdullah ibn Abdulaziz Al Saud, one of the sons of the King of Saudi Arabia, had high hopes of building an 85,000-square-foot estate in Beverly Hills until a bunch of his soon-to-be neighbors cried fowl. In 2009, the prince spent $12M on three parcels totaling 5.2 acres and drew up plans that included a 42,000-square-foot main house, a villa guest house, caretaker's quarters, and a pool house. Generally speaking, a compound of this size would be obnoxious anywhere, even in prestigious Benedict Canyon, where Jay Leno's main house measures only 3,400 square feet. After public outcry from neighborhood residents, the prince's lawyer has withdrawn the plans. "The project is going forward, but it is going forward with some substantial revisions," he says, referring to villa or staff quarters (30,000 square feet of the original plan) that will be axed. Life in 90210 never seemed so modest!
