Bonkers Villa Comes With 1,230 Square Feet of 24-Carat Gold

New, 5 comments

Canary-yellow stucco is just the tip of the iceberg with Villa Colani, a 10,700-square-foot Majorcan behemoth named after German industrial designer Luigi Colani, who once said: "The earth is round, all the heavenly bodies are round; they all move on round or elliptical orbits." It's easy to see that precise influence here, what with the house's circular shape and round terraces accessible from every room. Details include 1,230 square feet (60 pounds) of 24-carat gold inside and out, doors adorned with Swarovski bling, a glass elevator, a staff apartment, crystal chandeliers, marble floors, gold-plated surfaces, dramatic sculpture, murals, and columns. If it's possible for things to get crazier, it does: last year, owner Karl-Heinz Richard Furst von Sayn-Wittgenstein (a German prince and talk show host who believes "only the best is good enough") put the place on eBay for $28M. It's now listed as "price upon request."
