With summer just around the corner, many of the best summer rentals have already been scooped up, but there must be some renters that came late to the party. In the spirit of providing those wayward souls with some fitting summer options, we've taken a peek at what's left on the summer rental market. Surprisingly, some desirable properties are still available in some of America's favorite summer playgrounds. Take this Norman Jaffe-designed beach house in Southampton, N.Y. Occupying a prime oceanfront plot with a boardwalk to the beach, the seven bedroom spread with pool and tennis court has plenty of space for hangers-on, and it better considering the price: $650K for the summer.
? North of Long Island, the crowds have long been drawn to Cape Cod's casual beachfront communities, but the bridge bottleneck can sap the fun from a relaxing weekend. So why not summer in similar, but more accessible Marion, Mass. This 16-acre estate, with rolling lawns and a four-bedroom, gambrel-style house, offers the best in Cape Cod living without the hassle. The 5,260-square-foot spread is listed for $40K per month.
? If the headache of catching a weekend flight or ferry doesn't deter you, there's always that classic preppy bastion, Nantucket. Here, the landscape is dotted with subdued shingle-style houses that rent for heady sums. This six-bedroom example is slightly cheaper than comparable waterfront cottages, but the price tag of $16K per week is nothing to take lightly.
? The West Coast, with its reputation for sunny weather, might not get its due when it comes to summer rentals, but Malibu, Calif. sure sees its fair share of seasonal residents. The staggering sunset views from this bluff-top three bedroom make it clear why, and the $18K monthly rental rate sounds like a downright deal given Malibu's reputation for high prices.
? The northern California vacation wonderland of Lake Tahoe might be best known for its famous ski areas—Squaw Valley hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics—but in the summer the lake is a popular destination for Bay Area vacationers. This nine-bedroom lakefront "chateau" might not have all the bells and whistles of the $75M Tranquility estate, but it sure is close. The 12,000-square-foot house features a 145-foot dock with boat slip, a 1,200-square-foot guest house, and log architecture for that mountain vibe. The chateau is renting for $40K per week this summer.
