Each year, legions of pilgrims endure a trip down Mexico's La Ruta del Peregrino, a 73-mile route designed to test the dedication of some two million participants. In an effort to draw more tourists and improve the experience for pilgrims, the local government commissioned several new architectural works. Ironically, the jailed Chinese artist Ai Weiwei designed one of them: this stone ramp with build-in seating (above), a resting place for weary pilgrims. Now that the dissident artist is confined to a prison cell, one can only imagine a 73-mile trek sounds like a luxury.
