A Castle in Yonkers Featured in Vogue and Boardwalk Empire

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Yonkers, N.Y.
Price: $4,950,000
The Skinny: North of Manhattan on the Hudson River, Yonkers, N.Y. might be the last place we would expect to find a 20-room stone castle. Even more unbelievable is the fact that at least 10 of the rooms were imported, in their entirety, from 16th-, 17th-, and 18th-century European mansions. The six-bedroom, 14,500-square-foot manse was built in the 1880s and by 2001 had fallen into such disrepair that raccoons had begun to frequent the ballroom. Museum curator and serial renovator Kohle Yohannan purchased the historic pile in '01 and spent almost 10 years restoring its former grandeur. Now, he's looking to unload the property—and make a pretty penny in the process. Yohannan spent $469K to acquire the house he's now marketing for $4.95M. Maybe appearances on the glossy pages of Vogue or in the moody crime drama Boardwalk Empire will help ease the buyer's pain.
