Starchitecture for a Steal: Michael Graves Creation in Indiana

New, 4 comments

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Fort Wayne, Ind.
Price: $279,900
The Skinny: The starchitect Michael Graves—who has recently made a household name designing household products for Target—built this angular four-bedroom house in 1967. The first commission Graves earned as a practicing architect, the Hanselmann House was produced for Jay and Lois Hanselmann, high school friends of Graves from Indianapolis. With the starchitect pedigree, you might expect this 2,900-square-foot house to fetch a high price, but the out-of-the-way location means it's astoundingly cheap at $280K. And that's including an original, signed mural by Graves himself, valued at over $40K.
