Filipino Charity Uses Soda Bottles to Bring Light to Dim Slums

Thanks to crude corrugated metal roofing, overcrowding, and a lack of electricity, the slums surrounding the Philippine capital of Manila are populated by people who either live in darkness or waste expensive electricity on daytime lightbulb use. Thanks to an ingenious local charity, hundreds of formerly-dark homes are now lit by soda bottles filled with a water and bleach solution. Yep, that's it. No fancy solar panels, no running wires through the ever-changing warren of streets and alleys, just a recycled soda bottle affixed to a hole in the roof with some sealant.
