Faux Finishes Reign Supreme in this Western Mass Mansion

Price: $1,700,000
The Skinny: The staid white exterior of this 1884 columned mansion in Longmeadow, Mass. doesn't relate much to the interiors, but a walk through the doors reveals an otherworldly obsession with faux finishes. There's the not-found-in-nature blue faux marble in the parlor, the elementary cloud paintings on the dining room ceiling, and, up in the attic billiards room, a splotchy tonal green treatment that may be attempting to mimic a rainforest. All of this distasteful design does a disservice to the house, which could otherwise be a grand residence, what with the 10,000 square feet, 11 bedrooms, six fireplaces, and a solarium inspired by London's famous Crystal Palace.
