The new Renzo Piano expansion of the Notre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France, has recently opened, despite the public outcry when the project was announced a few years ago. Disputing the notion that he had somehow bastardized Le Corbusier's original design, Piano, who attended the ceremony, said that his addition actually made the site holier: "It’s not just tourism,” he told Arch Record. “There are also nuns living there, which brings life and energy."
