ORLEANS - The Orleans Community Playground is on-track to be ready for a Friday grand opening. The new space was designed with input from students at Orleans Elementary School and includes most of their requests, minus the water slide and bungy jump. The creative community build project plans to "be ready for the super wicked awesome mind blowing playground extravaganza this Friday!" [Orleans Community Playground]

SOUTH YARMOUTH - Construction begins this week on the Simpkins School Residences, which will create 65 affordable and market rate senior housing units. As for the basketball court behind the former school? According to the town's Parks and Recreation Director, "Basketball courts are becoming an attractive nuisance." In what way? "She said the noise of the bouncing balls bothers neighboring residents and would probably be the same for future Simpkins residents." Perhaps there's some ironic grant for discouraging physical activity the town could apply for to fund the demolition. The zoning board of appeals decides the fate of the court, as well as other changes to the original agreement, next month. [The Register]
