A Retro SoCal Spanish Manse from Former Record Producer

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine Rental of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Santa Monica, Calif.
Price: $45,000 per month
The Skinny: With the colorfully tiled kitchen and bathrooms, a terra cotta roof, round archways, and beamed ceilings, it would be easy to assume this Santa Monica house was built back in the 1920s. In fact, it was completed just five years ago by record producer-turned-realtor George Ghiz. Ghiz, who led Mr. Mister and the Rembrandts to their one-time popularity, built the stucco manse from scratch on a lot with distant views of the ocean, lived in it for a time, and then listed it for lease at $45K per month. The price includes just two bedrooms and two baths, but a rare blend of modern convenience and proper retro style.
