Five Cape & Islands Towns, Five Sea Captain's Homes Asking $599K to $6.95M

We begin in Edgartown, at 80 South Water Street, where we find the Captain Valentine Pease House. Built for the whaling captain in 1836, the property is "an attractive blend of modern amenities and historic charm" featuring seven bedrooms, four full and two half baths. The home sits across from the Mayhew Parsonage and offers clear views of Edgartown Harbor. In addition, the village property comes with built-in dinner party bragging rights as Captain Pease is believed to be one of the inspirations behind Melville's Captain Ahab and the crib was owned for many years by Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal. First listed in March for $3,830,000, an August pricechop has brought the ask down to $3,500,000.

In Hyannis, at 35 Pleasant Street, we find the Captain Allen Crowell House. Built in 1852, the property is perfected located on Captain's Row in the Historic District of Hyannis, just down the street from Hyannis Harbor. Over the years, the Crowell has been a single family, a rooming house, and a bed and breakfast. The carriage house has been converted into an art studio and museum. The 9,110 sq. ft. property is on the National Register of Historic Places. First listed in May 2010 for $2,290,000, the place is now yours for $1,930,000.
