Interest in so-called "passive homes" has skyrocketed in recent years, as the expense of public utilities only increases and environmental awareness has come to the fore, but the concept is hardly new. Way back in the '70s, a small community outside of Taos, N.M. was formed—with the aspirational name of "Greater World"—with the goal of creating self-sufficient homes in the desert. This three-bedroom number comes complete with a greenhoused "jungle" where, according to the brokerbabble, "you can catch fresh fish for dinner." A wild, tiled, and windowed waterfall graces the living room, and plants grow throughout the glass and adobe structure. The ultimate in hippie accommodations doesn't come cheap though; it's currently listed for $1.5M.
