Gucci Heir Lists 23-Acre California Desert Compound for $9M

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Palm Desert, Calif.
Price: $9,000,000
The Skinny: Patricia Gucci, the granddaughter of Gucci fashion house founder Guccio Gucci, acquired this desert escape near Palm Springs in the early 1990s. The 23-acre property is centered around an 11,000-square-foot main house and also includes a guest house, tennis court, swimming pool, and media room. The interiors aren't exactly the stylish spaces one might expect from one of fashion's first families, but, in fairness, this remote escape might be more about getting away from it all than impressing the jet set. Originally built in the 1960s for a Hollywood executive, the sprawling $9M compound was designed by landscape architect Tommy Thompson, who had all the utility lines buried to preserve the 360-degree views. As an aside, it is important to note that Patricia Gucci is not to be confused with Maurizio Gucci's ex-wife Patrizia, who was convicted of hiring a contract killer to murder her husband in 1995. Patrizia, who reportedly declined parole with the words "I've never worked in my life and I'm certainly not going to start now," remains incarcerated in an Italian prison.
