This week Aspen says goodbye to Jim Hayes, one of the town's original ski bums and the silversmith who created the Aspen leaf belt buckles that are a status symbol around town. Hayes came to town in 1949, stayed in the Hotel Jerome "until I ran out of money" and then fell in with ruffians like Klaus Obermeyer, to the benefit of the larger ski community. [Aspen Times]
