Every ski resort with a sizable base village is required, by dint of resort marketing, to have a pizza spot where parents can fix their kids up with no-fush Italian food ("...just pasta and butter, please!") and at least eat some decent pizza themselves while zoning out after a day on the hill. Mammoth's incarnation is now Campo Mammoth, which has a lot of hype since Esquire named Campo Reno one of the best new restaurants in America, despite operating in a culinary wasteland noted more for cheap casinos than fine food. Campo brought in Chef Mark Estee to run the joint, and judging from the reputation of his work in Tahoe, there should be some tasty pies coming out of that wood-fired oven when the joint opens today.
