A Fabulously Ornate Villa in the Hills of Budapest Asks $33M

New, 1 comment

When one thinks of Eastern Europe, enormous villas with eight-figure price tags are probably not the first things that spring to mind, but they are out there, like this opulently decorated example in the hills outside Budapest, Hungary. Even more striking than the ornate detailing, frescoes, mosaic tiling, and marble floors is the price, a wallet-emptying $33M. For that, the buyer gets a 12,000-square-foot main house, detached staff accommodations, formal gardens, and a "security guards’ station." That's all well and good, but there are some glaring issues for a house of this size and apparent quality. For one, despite all that square footage, there are just three bedrooms in the main house; second, the grounds are cramped, at just 2.5 acres; and lastly, lest we forget, it costs an insane $33M, a sum that could secure the buyer a similar residence almost anywhere in the world.
