A Gulf-Front Mississippi Mansion with Roots in Newport

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Pass Christian, Miss.
Price: $15,000,000
The Skinny: Construction of this Mississippi mansion began in 1960, under the direction of shipbuilder J. Edgar Monroe and his wife Louise. This, their winter home, was designed to rank with their summer home, the famed Rosecliff mansion at Newport, R.I., but by the 1990's 11,000 square feet was deemed simply too small. That's when two massive wings were built, tripling the interior space to 33,000 square feet and bringing the total number of bedrooms to 14. The behemoth of a house sits on eight acres of gulf-front property, with a verdant lawn that streams down toward the water and old growth trees that give this place a feel much older than its 52 years. Sadly, the property is distanced from the beach by public road, but that hasn't prevented this place from asking the very Newport price of $15M.
