Classic Hamptons Beach House Sits Among Seafront Monsters

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Southampton, N.Y.
Price: $14,750,000
The Skinny: A holdover from a different era in the history of the Hamptons, this casual oceanfront cottage is now cramped on a small lot along Meadow Lane, between gargantuan mega-mansions. That's not to say the house is small, far from it. With ten bedrooms and eight baths spread over 6,600 square feet, A Wee Ly Mor, as the shingle-style spread is known, has plenty of space for guests, along with four fireplaces, a formal dining room, a large kitchen with classic built-ins, and a screened-in "sleeping porch" with views over the dunes to the Atlantic. Built in the 1880s for F.H. Betts, then president of the Southampton Village Improvement Society, the beachfront home was traded in 1930 to the ferry-rich Fulton Cutting family, who have remained the owners ever since. Now, 80 years on, they're finally ready to say goodbye, provided someone ponies up $14.75M for the low-key summer estate. That price has come down from the initial ask of $17.5M, but the chop seems to have brought some celebrity interest. According to the New York Post, actress Leelee Sobieski and her designer husband Adam Kimmel were spotted touring the property back in March.
