A Magnificent Beaux-Arts Mansion on D.C.'s Embassy Row

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Washington, D.C.
Price: $4,995,000
The Skinny: Next door to the historic Woodrow Wilson house and across the street from the Dutch ambassador's residence, this imposing limestone mansion lies just off the "Embassy Row" section of Massachusetts Avenue. Built in 1918 to designs by Clarke Waggaman and George Ray, the 6,600-square-foot detached townhouse has a rare garage, six bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms, an elevator, and fully restored interiors. That restoration was conducted by the current owner, who, in light of the expense, is not seeking much of a profit. The house last sold in '08 for just over $4M and is currently listed for $5M. The architecture may lose its luster next to some of the more elaborate examples nearby, but the location, on a side street and away from traffic, makes this a more desirable family home.
