A Unique Private Peninsula on the Northern California Coast

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Timber Cove, Calif.
Price: $1,995,000
The Skinny: Two and a half hours north of San Francisco on California's Highway 1, this narrow peninsula juts out from the rocky coastline, with just enough space for a glassy one-bedroom cottage and a narrow boardwalk. While the peninsula itself is small, the property totals three acres, meaning there's space for a guest house. That's a good thing too, because the buyer of this $2M house will probably want to extensively renovate the dated redwood interiors. The views alone seem to have been enough to generate interest, as the house has just entered escrow, but, thanks to some lingering contingencies, showings are continuing. Despite the issues with the interior and an unorthodox entry, this place offers a chance to live on what is essentially a private island, surrounded by water, but without having to take to the high seas for groceries.
