Want to rent a sun-drenched, pre-Victorian farmhouse with fireplaces everywhere on a great piece of land? And all for zero dollars? Kevin Kaminski and Maureen Clarke sure did and they jumped at the chance to live for free in a condemned historic house owned by the state of Massachusetts in exchange for paying to fix it up (a very serious undertaking that included replacing the septic system and removing asbestos). Of course there's a catch! But now $25k and months of full-time work later, the place is now finally habitable and they're loving it. And for those with similar courage, there are a handful of other such government-owned properties across the country just waiting for the right "resident curator" to come along, too. [Reuters]
