The state of New York, looking to cut costs, is attempting to sell off a set of state prisons, along with a Romanesque armory and other historic architecture. The trouble with some of the former jails is that, well, they're located next to operational ones. A few of the prison superintendents' residences are lavish, however, with one boasting 8,850 square feet, eight bedrooms, and a "barn-size garage." [NYT]
