While one of his most famous characters, Patrick Bateman of American Psycho, holed up in the "American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street," the author Bret Easton Ellis spends his time in New York in a loft in the American Felt Building on East 13th Street. While his apartment, a 950-square-foot studio, pales in comparison to Bateman's slick uptown pad, it does boast a private 400-square-foot terrace and high, vaulted ceilings. There's no keeping secrets between the occupants, however, as it is all one open space with no wall dividing the bedroom from the living area. That might not be all that appealing, but it's more so when you consider that you may just share an elevator with Tom Cruise, who is said to keep a few apartments in the same building. Listed for $5,000 per month, the apartment may be helping to finance Ellis' new indie film project, The Canyons.
