Things happening at the intersection of celebrity-land and shelter media-land today: Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are in escrow on a spectacular Windsor Smith-designed mansion that was featured on the cover of the October 2011 issue of Veranda. According to TMZ, the actress paid close to the $10.45M ask, which it reached in April after an $800K PriceChop. (The property, built last year, was originally put on the market for $11.96M in Sept.)
This "House of Windsor," as the magazine called it, served as the setting for the first-ever Veranda concept house last year, where a bunch of big-name designers were called in to do it up. While current listing photos show no trace of Martyn Lawrence Bullard's wacky media room (with its "a Studio 54-Halson vibe" and squiggly wall and ceiling fabric), the "graceful middle ground between formal and casual" Smith was going for seems to remain. The dry stats: the 8,000-square-foot "Federally inspired" house has six bedrooms, eight baths, kitchen cabinetry inspired by sycamore trees, Calacatta-marble kitchen countertops, and a master dressing room with a tub smack dab in the middle. And, something sure to please to fans of Paltrow's GOOP newsletter: an extra-wide entry hall with flooring made from stones from a Peruvian schoolhouse.
Of course this isn't Paltrow's first dalliance with a national shelter magazine. In 2007, her Hamptons home was featured on the cover of the now-defunct House & Garden; in the accompanying story she was described as "[taking] charge of the house's design nearly from the beginning." Which means her new home will soon feel the hand of Gwyn at work: will there be "a skull-and-crossbones motif on the library’s mantel," as there is in the couple's London home? "Fuzzy nap zones," as one might see at her Roman & Williams-designed place in Manhattan? As you wait with bated breath, have a look at the interior photos below.
