Eclectic New England Mansion in the Woods Tries for $5.3M

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Walpole, N.H.
Price: $5,300,000
The Skinny: Nestled in the New Hampshire woods, 2.5 hours northwest of Boston, the Rice Mountain estate is an eclectic blend of architectural styles. From 18th-century Cape, to Gothic, to Tudor, the 10,000-square-foot mansion is a bit of an architectural mix-and-match. In southern New Hampshire, charging $5.3M for a house like this would usually be considered borderline crazy, but this estate happens to include 356 acres of private forest and a series of outbuildings chock full of history, including several that were dismantled, moved to the site, and rebuilt. If that wasn't enough evidence of the current owner's historic obsessions, one of the barns is currently serving as what looks like an antique wagon museum.
