A Shingle-Style Time Machine in Maine's Cranberry Isles

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Sutton Island, Maine
Price: $995,000
The Skinny: Nestled up next to the more heavily trafficked Mount Desert Island, Maine's Cranberry Isles feel yet another world away. Sutton Island, one of the Cranberries, has no formal roads and no airstrip, meaning it is only accessible by ferry or private boat. If you find that sort of rustic charm appealing, than this shingle-style summer cottage should be just the place for a seasonal getaway. Occupying an 8.3-acre site on the island's north coast, the 1,600-square-foot Talley House has four bedrooms, four baths, and hasn't changed much since it was built in 1905. The living room fireplace, complete with a map of the island in fresco over the mantle, is like something out of Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. Rustic and remote does not, in this case, mean cheap, as the Talley House is currently asking close to $1M.
