Watch a Pre-Fab House Pop Up on Old-School Fishers Island

New, 2 comments

Fishers Island, the low-lying slender island near Connecticut that actually belongs to New York, has been a blue-blood getaway for generations, with an abundance of turn-of-the-century Queen Anne and Shingle style residences and a general aversion to change. That's what makes it such a strange place to erect a pre-fab house, but given the island's remote location and the difficulty of transporting building materials to the site, it also made perfect sense to partially construct most of this modern manse elsewhere and then move it to the site in container-sized pieces. Resolution: 4 Architecture, the firm behind the project, recorded the installation, which must have looked like an alien ship landing to many Fishers Island regulars.
