Location: Ocklawaha, Fla.
Price: $1,000,000+
The Skinny: Kate "Ma" Barker, the mother of the notorious Barker brothers, met her end in this lakefront redoubt back in 1935, along with her son Freddie, after coming up on the wrong end of a four-hour shootout with police. The Barkers were renting at the time, under an assumed name, and now the descendants of the then-owners have just put the house up for sale, for the first time since. While the wreckage of that fateful day has long since been cleared, there are some remnants, like bullet holes in the walls and furniture, and a dedication to preservation that is reflected in the $1M starting bid. Recent research has shown that Ma Barker was just an accomplice to the gang, rather than its leader, but that revelation apparently hasn't prevented her notoriety from inflating the price of this 9.5-acre lakefront plot.
