Location: Islesboro, Maine
Price: $10,900,000
The Skinny: The old-school Maine summer colony of Islesboro, located in Penobscot Bay, is home to many pricey mansions, but we were surprised to find out that the most expensive property currently for sale on the island is a renovated barn not far from the airport. Sure, it is outfitted quite nicely, with a well-equipped kitchen, three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a separate office space spread over 4,200 square feet, but the price is an astronomical $10.9M. That's more than a nearby 9,000-square-foot historic waterfront estate on a nine-acre private peninsula. Another 9,000-square-foot Gilded Age mansion on the water further north is listed for just $3.5M after a couple of price chops. Sure, the barn sits on 12 acres, but the listing makes no mention of any waterfront and the location, so chances are this is a $9M typo and the charming barn is supposed to be listed for $1.09M.
