Trophy Laguna 'Private Resort' Has a Parking Lot Out Front

New, 24 comments

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Laguna Beach, Calif.
Price: $38,500,000
The Skinny: Despite the sky-high price tag and brokerbabble that claims it "opens onto the sand," this sprawling $38.5M Laguna Beach mansion in fact opens onto a parking lot for the Irvine Cove beach, where the rest of the tony gated community's residents can access the ocean. Still, the hulking structure, built in 1963, is tall enough to afford views beyond the parking to the glittering Pacific and a pristine crescent of sand with towering cliffs on either side. It's the rarity of this "steps to the sand" location, combined with Irvine Cove's exclusivity and the sheer size of this place, that make for the stratospheric price tag. The 7,200-square-foot spread houses five bedrooms, nine bathrooms, walls of glass, expansive outdoor space, and a courtyard swimming pool. Parking lot or not, this is still a trophy property.
