The October Elle Decor continues the magazine's recent celebrity-cover streak (see: Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Lee) with Ivanka Trump, photographed inside her Manhattan living room. The socialite-turned-fashion designer, always an uptown girl, picked up the four-bedroom penthouse in Dad's Trump Park Avenue luxury tower early last year, even before her husband, New York Observer owner Jared Kushner, was able to sell off his bachelor pad downtown.
Being "detailed to a fault"—and apparently not into the sort of glitz and gilding her father is—Trump hired Manhattan decorator Kelly Behun to balance a "traditional and feminine" style with Kushner's more modern one. Although Behun herself lives in an all-white cube and has firmly endorsed such minimalism, here she spun a "modern warm" look from a relaxed palette of grays, taupes, and creams: "contemporary angles swathed in soothing shades, starting with the foyer and its silver-leaf wallpaper, painted with a botanical mural." Other details: a growing art collection, lighting by industrial designer Lindsey Adelmann, custom rugs, a high-tech kitchen where Trump apparently makes her own duck prosciutto, and a nursery with "one of those ugly colored mobiles off the crib." But just because the building bears her name doesn't mean Trump went too wild; in fact, Behun dishes, "Ivanka had a budget. They're not extravagant." Above, a peek through the space.
