What Happens In Taunton, Stays In Taunton

"The state House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted to approve a new compact with the Wampanoag Tribe of Mashpee, handing the tribe a victory in its quest to build a casino in Taunton." If it receives a monopoly in the southeast part of the state, the tribe would pay the state 17 percent of gambling revenues, but zero if any other resort casinos open in the region. Meanwhile, with the U.S. government closed, it's unclear when, or if, the tribe will receive federal approval for its land. [MassLive.com]
